Giving FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
- Why do we give to the local church?
-
As Christ Followers, we believe that we are stewards of God's resources because
He is the owner of all that we have. Throughout scripture, we are
reminded of the importance of giving back a portion of what God has so
generously provided. His Word tells us that giving is an act of worship
that should be done with a spirit of thanksgiving.
- How do we give?
-
We have several ways that you can give to God's work through your tithes and offerings. You can give
by check on Sundays, you can mail a check to our offices, you can give online (once or schedule recurring gifts) by eCheck or debit/credit cards. Please read the FAQ's regarding credit card gifts.
- Why do I have to set up a user name and password?
-
Setting up an account with a user name and password allows you to enter a highly secure
environment for your transaction. Once your account and password are established, all of your
personal information including credit card information is safe and protected.
- Can I just try this by giving online one time?
-
Yes, just select “One Time” in the frequency drop-down box.
- Is online giving secure?
-
All account information (eCheck, debit or credit card) you enter and/or store for online giving is
secured by McAfee Secure™ and is tested daily. No one has access to your account data unless
authorized by you.
- Are there any hidden charges or fees to give online?
-
No, Greenbrier Church does not charge any extra fees. You select the dollar amount for your
gift. That is the dollar amount that will be recognized as your contribution.
- Can I use a check online?
-
Yes, select the “eCheck” option under Payment Method.
- If we want to help people get out of debt, why does Greenbrier accept credit card contributions?
-
Used within the parameters, debit and credit cards can be an efficient tool for payments and
purchases. Many people utilize them in place of checks or cash throughout the month, and then pay
off the balance in full each month. For these people, we offer the option of using a debit or credit
card to give. We strongly discourage those who have ongoing credit card debt from exercising this
option. Instead, you may use an eCheck or debit card to directly debit your checking account.
- Can I designate my gift to a particular department or ministry?
-
Every dollar given to the Greenbrier Church general fund is used to support the global mission
and vision of the church. You will have the ability to designate your online contribution only to an item in the
“Fund” drop-down box.
- Should I tithe off my gross earnings or the net amount of my paycheck?
-
Scripture doesn’t use the literal terms “net” or “gross”. It’s more important to note that the spirit in
which we give is of greatest value to God. He tells us in II Corinthians 9 that “each man should give
what he has decided in his heart to give; not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful
giver.”
- How can I keep a record of the amount I have contributed?
-
You can view your online giving record from the online giving window at any time. Scroll to the bottom
of the window to see your giving history for the current year. There’s also a drop down menu that
allows you to view giving from previous years. Press Ctrl+P to print the window or click on the print
button. This print out can also be used as your year end contribution statement.
- What if I want to change my online giving or stop it?
-
From the online giving window, scroll down to the contribution schedule. Select the green edit button
to make a change or select the blue button to delete.
